ResolverOne Wins IPinfo 2025 Hackathon

We're excited to share that ResolverOne, our DNS-based IP geolocation service, was announced as a winner of IPinfo's 2025 Lite Hackathon! What started as a weekend project exploring alternative ways to deliver geolocation data has resonated with the community and caught the attention of IPinfo's team.

ResolverOne takes a different approach to IP geolocation by delivering data through DNS TXT records instead of traditional HTTP APIs. Simply query 8.8.8.8.rslvr.one and receive structured location data including country, continent, ASN, and organization information. This DNS-first approach offers significant advantages for IoT devices, satellite connections, and edge computing scenarios where bandwidth is precious and HTTP overhead is costly. With responses as small as 50-200 bytes compared to 1KB+ JSON payloads, ResolverOne makes geolocation accessible to battery-powered devices and networks with limited connectivity.

The hackathon brought together creative developers building innovative projects with IPinfo Lite's country and ASN data. We're honored to be recognized alongside other impressive winners like VectorSpace's Proxy Policy compliance tool and Ryan Terp's IPinfo Lite PowerShell Module. The judges highlighted ResolverOne's practical utility and the positive response it received when shared on Hacker News, validating our belief that DNS remains one of the most underutilized protocols for data delivery.

Thanks to IPinfo and Abdullah for creating a platform that celebrates builders and encourages collaboration. If you're curious about DNS-based geolocation or want to see ResolverOne in action, head over to resolver.one to try the live demo or check out the documentation. You can test it right now with a simple dig TXT 8.8.8.8.rslvr.one command in your terminal.
